ABOUT US
Kid Curated Books is a project that arose from my passion in choosing interesting, engaging, thought-provoking books for my children. Reading is transformative. It opens children up to worlds they hadn’t before even dared imagine. Who could have possibly pictured the Quidditch World Cup before JK Rowling described it so perfectly? Or the giant spiders catching the poor dwarves in their webs before Bilbo saves the day? And reading gives kids the confidence to follow their dreams because they’ve learned how far others have gotten by doing just that. A Judge Grows in the Bronx shows us how Justice Sotomayor began her life in a humble New York tenement, before following her dreams to the very top of her profession. Firebird tells the story of how Misty Copeland overcame her own fears and doubts to become the first African American female Principal Dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. Reading can also just be plain fun. Who doesn’t laugh while reading The Book With No Pictures or Ivy and Bean?
While I could choose dozens of really fun or thoughtful books for our home library, if the books didn’t interest my children, they wouldn’t listen to them. Fast forward to me spending hours online researching what Finnegan would like next since he loved The Mysterious Benedict Society. Or what Sabine would like along the lines of Daisy Dawson is On Her Way. Or what could possibly satisfy Lourdes given her obsession with Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy. I soon realized I wasn’t alone. I would talk to parent after parent who bemoaned the hours they spent online researching their child’s next favorite book. Kid Curated Books gives you that time back by sending you four books each month tailored to your child’s preferences. Your child’s next favorite book is now just a few clicks away.
Our Crew
Melissa & Joe are high school sweethearts and lawyers by trade. Joe's favorite author as a child was Richard Scarry and he is bitterly disappointed many of his books are no longer available. He may start a campaign to bring them back. Melissa was obsessed with the Wrinkle in Time series growing up and read all of the books. She rooted heartily for Calvin and Meg's relationship. A romantic from the get-go.
Finnegan is a 4th grade hockey player who loves to read long chapter books and is a genius in mythology (his words). His favorite authors are Rick Riordan and JK Rowling.
Lourdes is a 1st grader who loves reading and gymnastics. Her favorite book is The Kingdom of Wrenly.
Sabine is our 1st grade tiny dancer who likes to read and color. Her favorite book is Princess Pony.
